Indian school education system

Rote learning, known for its debilitating impact on independent thinking and creative instincts of children has still remained a central feature of indian school education system and perhaps it is one of the valid reason as to why India has still been struggling to establish itself as a research hub of the world despite its impressive economic growth over the decades. When schools with its undue emphasis on rote learning shuts the door for conceptual understanding of the subjects among the students and doesn’t make any serious attempt to create an atmosphere where the students are constantly encouraged and motivated to question and explore new ideas, thoughts and opinions, how they will develop research bent of mind.Spirit of inquiry and questioning are not being encouraged among the students in the Indian class rooms. One of the basic objective of education is to promote and support independent thinking among the learners.Unless school education is staved off rote learning and teaching methodology is modified to make learning more fun and interactive, we cannot produce scholars who could contribute their might to the development of the nation. As a a country aspiring to become a global superpower, it should not lag behind when it comes to change its education system to produce citizens with inquisitive mind with social responsibility.
